Club Catcher Sensor Review

Golfers everywhere have felt the embarrassment of leaving a golf club near a green or tee box, only to realize it much later. The new Club Catcher Sensor is a simple yet effective piece of technology that combats this issue, aimed at preventing you from losing any of your prized clubs during a round.

Club Catcher Sensor Technology and Purpose

By now most golfers are familiar with gadget-and-app tech combos that include a sensor you screw into the grip of a club that emits a signal to a smartphone app. This is most often seen with golf swing analyzers or golf tracking apps designed to give you metrics about your game. While the Club Catcher Sensor follows this same hardware design, its purpose is entirely different.

Each Club Catcher unit ships with four sensors that screw into the grip of any club you choose. You then download an app on your iPhone or Android, follow a few on-screen steps to connect the sensors, and you’re all set. This process only takes a few minutes and is very intuitive.

Club Catcher lives up to its tagline promise of “never lose a club again” because of how the app alerts you when a golf club (equipped with a sensor) is left behind.

That’s basically the entire premise and design of the hardware and app. See? I said it was simple.

So… does it work?

Performance and Ease of Use

Installing the sensors into your golf grips is as easy as turning a screw. Each sensor fits snugly and securely into the bottom of your grip, so there’s no concern about it falling out during normal play. They are also extremely lightweight and will not be noticed during your swing.

The smartphone app is also easy to install and use. The Club Catcher app walks you through the setup process in easy-to-understand steps. There’s no need to charge the sensors or any wires to connect, either. Everything is ready to go as soon as you install the app and confirm that the sensors are detected.

Club Catcher will detect whenever you take one of your equipped clubs out of your golf bag. You then play the hole as you normally would. You don’t even need your phone in your pocket as you play; just keep it near your golf bag at all times. I chose to keep my phone in my cart’s cupholder and had no problems.

When you forget to replace a club back into your bag, the device and app will send you an alert on your phone letting you know. In a way, Club Catcher is like having a caddy with you at all times so you never forget another club near the green.

Overall Impression

As someone who has a bad habit of leaving golf clubs behind, Club Catcher is a great solution to a problem that annoys golfers everywhere. The app and sensors were very easy to install and use right out of the box.

Of course, everything comes at a price, and a group of four sensors currently runs about $80. When compared to the cost of replacing your wedge or iron, however, this is a small price to pay for peace of mind. While Club Catcher might not be a necessity on the golf course, it’s definitely a great security tool to protect your expensive clubs for good.
