ASICS Gel-Course ACE Golf Shoes Review

The new ASICS Gel-Course Ace golf shoes are a sleek, low-profile, incredibly comfortable option for players who prefer the feel of a running shoe while on the course. Featuring a waterproof, spikeless design, the Gel-Course ACE is definitely a shoe all golfers should consider this season.

Gel-Course ACE Specifications

As with past ASICS golf shoe models, the company’s passion for running shoe design is inherent in this new release. Featuring ASICS Gel, FlyteFoam and comfort padding on the ankle, the GEL-Course ACE shoes were inspired by ASICS running shoes and provide more comfort on every swing.

“The Srixon/ASICS partnership has been tremendous for both our brands,” said Mike Powell, President of Sales and Marketing at Srixon/Cleveland Golf/XXIO. “ASICS is a huge global sports brand and widely recognized as the leader in performance footwear. We’re excited to launch the new GEL-Course ACETM. This shoe will provide the legendary performance of ASICS running shoes and the waterproof protection you need when conditions on the course aren’t perfect.”

The full list of features of the Gel-Course ACE include:

  • Lightweight Frame Work and Flexibility: Air mesh provides flexibility during the swing and while walking the golf course. ASICS FlyteFoam® provides lightweight shock absorption and plenty of durability for golf.

  • Flexible Waterproof Upper: Flexible mesh provides comfort, while the thin PU and waterproof lining keep your feet dry in wet conditions.

  • Supportive Fit: An air mesh at vamp and the integrated quarter panel provide a supportive fit, while internal molded heel counter secures optimal foot support. Additional ankle padding helps ensure a custom fit that adapts to every move.

  • Golf Specific Tooling: The FG traction sole pattern places spikes exactly where they need to be for stability and traction while walking the course. Rearfoot GEL cushioning reduces impact and increases shock absorption, while Toe and Lateral rubber wraps help maintain balance throughout the golf swing.

Feel and Performance

I prefer a golf shoe that is slim-fitting and not too “boxy” around the toes. They have to be lightweight, have a strong waterproof capability, and being able to wear on and off the course is a plus. Ties or BOA cords are interchangeable for me, just as long as the shoes remain fastened throughout a round.

The ASICS Gel-Course ACE hits on most of the above. I absolutely love the slim fit and comfortable “snugness” of the true-to-size design. My foot felt secure and didn’t slide around in the shoes at all, which already tells me these are going to be perfect for a walking round. Both models I tested were fastened with traditional shoelaces, which remained tied for hours. The kept my feet dry and protected, complete with adequate arch support. These are very comfortable shoes all around.

The spikeless design on the bottom of the Gel-Course ACE is also low-profile and closer to that of a sneaker than a traditional golf shoe. Multiple “nubs” are positioned strategically throughout the bottom sole, each peaking to a flat surface as opposed to a sharp point. Regardless, I had zero issues with traction or slippage during my time with them.

While I wore the Gel-Course ACEs on and off the course, they did feel like I was wearing something other than a running shoe when on hard surfaces. This is less of a critique and more my attempt to explain that you’ll “feel” the sole design under your feet when walking on floors or sidewalks.

Overall Impression

The ASICS Gel-Course ACEs are a great option for players who prefer the look and feel of a non-traditional golf shoe. I love them, and will undoubtedly wear them for multiple rounds this upcoming golf season. I look forward to getting a full impression of their durability and protection on my feet after multiple wears.
