When Will Rory Break Thru?
Seen as one of the most exciting up-and-comers on the PGA Tour, Rory McIlroy has been struggling as of late. In fact, the youngster's numerous sub-par finishes have grabbed the attention of many major golf outlets. And by "sub-par" I mean "not to Rory's expectations".
According to
PGA.com, McIlroy is becoming more and more frustrated with his inability to win as of late and is beginning to voice his displeasure:
"It's important to keep the run going. It's nice to finish up there all the
time, but it would be nice to convert some of the top-3s into wins as it's
getting a little frustrating," said the 2009 Dubai Desert Classic champion.
"Four rounds in the 60s was a great way to start the year last week and that's
the way I have to look at it."It would have been great to win, but it's another week I can build on and
it gives me a lot of confidence going into Dubai knowing I can score and have
the capability to shoot low numbers when I need to," he added. "If I keep
putting myself in these great positions and keep knocking on the door sooner or
later it will happen, I just have to keep doing it."
In all fairness, the year that the young golfer has opened with would be what many less-expectant golfers would consider to be a great start. However, when you are a 20-something phenom with stars in your eyes and have a fanbase looking for the next Tiger... well, sometimes the whole "patience is a virtue" thing goes out the window.
Make no mistake about it, golf fans; McIlroy is going to be a golf superstar when everything is said and done. He has the game and the desire to be one of the all-time greats, and with his fantastic top 3 major finish at the PGA Championship this past August the time to pay attention is now upon us.
