Tallgrass Brewing Co. makes every golf round better
If you're looking for a new beer (or twelve) to try this Memorial Day weekend, look no further than the high quality offerings from Chicago's own River North Beer distributing company. I recently had the opportunity to sample three new beers from the Tallgrass Brewing Company, one of the many breweries under the River North umbrella. In the spirit of transparency, I had never heard of Tallgrass Brewing before using the bathroom at a local pub, but after seeing an advertisement for the company I knew I had to give them a try.
The first beer I sampled very well may be my new favorite beer of all time. I'm not kidding.
Tallgrass 8-Bit Ale is both refreshing and fun to drink, thanks to the unique can graphics that mimic retro video games of the 1980s. It is Tallgrass's take on the American Pale Ale that features four different types of hops and a citrusy, melon flavor. While the alcohol content is a tad higher than most domestic beers -- over 5.0 percent -- you hardly notice the "bite" typically found in beers with higher ABV. You will seriously do yourself an injustice if you don't give this one a try.
Next, the Tallgrass Velvet Rooster is another high-quality beverage that, as the company website suggests, has spurs. Featuring a hefty 8.5 percent ABV content, this beer will definitely have you feeling good in a matter of minutes. Beyond the obvious, though, Velvet Rooster features a floral nose and almost candy-like taste with a mix of fruit and Champagne crispness. This beer would go well with most meats and poultry, so start grilling.
Finally, the Tallgrass Ethos IPA is an Indian pale ale that features a pine or mild grassy aroma and a sweet, bready flavor that hits you right in the chest. I enjoyed the bitter, dry finish with each sip, which made me crave a bacon cheeseburger to compliment the beer.
