REVIEW: Srixon Q-STAR TOUR golf balls

The new Srixon Q-STAR TOUR golf balls are a phenomenal option for players who prefer a premium ball, but who might cringe at paying higher price tags. At only $29.99 per dozen, the Srixon Q-STAR TOUR features tech and qualities that will rival any competitor on the market. After playing 36 holes with these fantastic golf balls, I can safely say they deliver as advertised... and more.

Specifications and Technology

The Srixon Q-STAR TOUR is a premium, lower-compression (75), 3-piece golf ball with a urethane cover. Designed specifically for skilled golfers with moderate swing speeds who demand the performance and feel of a tour ball, the Q-STAR TOUR is playable by golfers of all levels.

The lower compression of the ball makes it easier to compress so more golfers can achieve optimal distance on full shots. Any player of any level can benefit from this compression, however, golfers will most appreciate the tremendous iron distance and the tour-caliber greenside spin control that the Q-STAR TOUR delivers.

Each ball also features Srixon's patented "Spinskin" coating that provides a soft feel along with paramount greenside control.

Performance and Feel

During my two rounds with the Srixon Q-STAR TOUR, I completely agree that this ball feels soft and is easily controlled around the green. What surprised me the most was the distance I also earned across my entire bag.

For example, my typical drives average 245-255 yards of carry when hit well. I routinely exceeded these numbers with the Q-STAR TOUR, including a great deal of roll despite soft fairways thanks to our wet Midwest weather.

Iron shots saw similar gains, especially in the middle of my set. My 4-iron is consistent from 190 out, but I was able to stretch that to 200 yards on multiple occasions with the Q-STAR TOUR. Flight patterns were tight and miss hits stayed on the planet, which for my hook is a godsend.

Did I mention this ball costs under $30 per dozen? That's almost insane.

What I didn't expect was the golf balls' durability. Srixon golf balls are known to be pretty soft -- some might say fragile -- but this was not the case with the new Q-STAR TOURs. I ricocheted a shot off a cart path on the fly, and while this resulted in a brown scuff, the ball's cover was otherwise undamaged. I used the ball for the remainder of the round and saw no dip in performance.

Overall Impression

The Srixon Q-STAR TOUR golf balls are incredible. The combination of durability, performance and affordability put these golf balls in a league of their own. Yes, there are golf balls that will perform similar to the Q-STAR TOURs, but none at this price point.

The buzz around these golf balls is real. Get your hands on them as soon as you can.
