Relax Jesper, It'll All Be OK

In the midst of the hottest story in golf, the Swedish golfer who introduced Elin Nordegren to Tiger Woods is now stating that he owes Mrs. Woods an apology.

Jesper Parnevik, previously known for his outlandish fashion sense as opposed to a rather mediocre playing career (in terms of professional golf) issued the following statement the other day regarding the news that Tiger has had numerous affairs since marrying Parnevik's ex-nanny:

Parnevik told the Golf Channel: "I would be especially sad about it – I really feel sorry for Elin – since me and my wife were at fault for hooking her up with him. "We probably thought he was a better guy than he is. I would probably need to apologize to her." He added: "It's a private thing, of course, but when you are the guy he is, the world's best athlete, you should think more before you do stuff."

So, aside from wearing ridiculous hats and extremely tight golf shirts, Jesper also believes he can forecast the future on how the greatest athlete in a generation would act once tempted by the "perks" of worldwide fame?

There is really nothing to apologize for, Jesper. The only person who needs to apologize to anyone is Tiger, which he already has done numerous times. Granted, Tiger is hoping to keep everything close to the chest and not divulge more information than needed... but the truth continues to come out from other sources regardless of how private Woods wants to keep this situation.

The fact of the matter is this: people are going to want to get his or her name in the limelight because of what will surely be a long, drawn-out story, but I certainly hope Jesper Parnevik does not follow suit. When faced with a "personal sin" or poor decision that affects one's family, the only person to blame is the offender. By no means am I trying to excuse what Tiger has (allegedly) done with his life, but to assume that he would remain completely loyal to his wife while being one of the most powerful men in the world is rather naive, especially in today's society.

There may be a silver-lining in this cloud for Tiger, however. Just as our society is more numb to the idea that infidelity is commonplace among famous figures, our society is also more accepting and willing to forgive... just as long as society benefits from it.

The true test for Tiger in the coming months will not be how he handles his private life or family. Those factors will remain as private as possible and I truly believe that everything will be worked out in one way or another.

How Tiger responds to this chapter in his life from an athletic standpoint is the true test of character. If we are playing the odds, I would bet that he rebounds from this situation in a positive way and continues his dominance of the professional golf scene (even if it means losing a few fans in the process).

A person is not defined by his or her mistakes made in life. Tiger is not a scumbag, nor a horrible person, nor an evil entity. He is a human who made a very poor decision and is now forced to own up to his mistakes to the best of his ability. Unfortunately there are children in the picture; children who are too young to understand the gravity of this situation at this time. A very public family could possibly unfold before our eyes, and that is simply something that nobody should want to see happen.

Nevertheless, any apologies should come from those who are directly responsible and not from other parties looking to get his or her name in print.
