Nicklaus, Watson Return to Champions Tour Skins Game
Wondering what the coolest professional golf event will be next month? Without a doubt it will be the 24th Ka'anapali Champions Skins Game as Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson will once again defend their title against other names like Couples, O'Meara, Crenshaw, Langer, and Price. Oh, and that goofy fellow Fuzzy Zoeller will also play.
Nicklaus and Watson, who are paired for the sixth consecutive time, return to the Royal Ka'anapali Golf Course to defend their title against 2009 champions Crenshaw and Zoeller. Couples and Price will team for the second consecutive year, while Langer and O'Meara are paired together for the first time.
Say what you will about the Skins Game's future on the PGA Tour; this line-up of golf's greatest competitors is absolutely incredible and one of my favorite times of the golfing season. How can fans NOT want to see these guys, regardless of the venue, format, or age? Sure; the PGA Tour's version of the format is a little lackluster... but perhaps this is where the Skins Game should reside from this point forward.
Last year the team of Watson and Nicklaus dominated the tournament, winning 9 of the first 10 skins en route to a 10-skin total of $350,000. Zoeller and Crenshaw put up a good fight, however, and finished second with five skins and $230,000. Last year's victory marked the third overall win for Watson in the Champions Skins game.
