My Pick to Win the FedEx Cup

This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone, but I am going with the odds on this prediction.

As the PGA Tour enters the final event of the 2009 season this weekend, the Tour Championship, Tiger Woods remains the landslide favorite to capture another FedEx Cup title (his last coming in 2007). While all FEC points are reset entering this tournament, and any of the Top 5 golfers in the FEC race has a chance to win the cup, Woods simply has too many factors going in his favor.

For one, Tiger has all the momentum someone could hope for entering the final tournament of a PGA season. He has tallied an impressive number of wins this 2009 season despite coming off of knee surgery, including last week's BMW Championship (which he won by 8 strokes), and seems to be on a mission to prove that a season with no Major wins can still be considered "successful". Secondly, Woods has an amazing record at East Lake (the site of this weekend's Tour Championship). In fact, the last three times Tiger has played at East Lake in a tournament he has finished second, second, and first, respectively. Thirdly, Wood's closet competition includes Jim Furyk (who has not won a single tournament in 2009) and Steve Stricker (who hasn't finished higher than a tie for 5th in a Tour Championship since 1998).

Finally, while most fans will enjoy the possibility of an underdog coming out of nowhere and winning the trophy, realists understand that athletes like Tiger Woods simply cannot allow for that to happen.
