Fantasy Golf Picks: Zurich Classic of New Orleans

Last weekend we were treated to an exciting finish at The Heritage where Brandt Snedeker held off Luke Donald to capture the plaid tartan jacket in a playoff.  This week the PGA Tour visits the TPC Louisiana for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.  Defending champion Jason Bohn is in the field again this year, along with a multitude of other past event winners.  Can Luke Donald make another run at the #1 spot of the Official World Golf Rankings?  Read on to see my fantasy golf picks for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. A List

Starter: Luke Donald; Bench: Nick Watney

Luke, Luke, Luke.  It coulda been your's!  Donald barely missed out on claiming the Top Spot of the OWGR last week in The Heritage, but alas he has to settle for crappy ol' #3.  How will a player of his talent ever deal with the fact that he is the third-highest-ranked player in the world?  Oh, woe is Luke.  Anyway, I still believe that there isn't any player on the planet who is golfing better than Donald in 2011, so he's my starter for the Zurich.  Watney (Zurich winner in 2007) continues to also play solid golf each tournament he enters, so we will be a fitting reserve if needed.

B List

Starters: Jason Bohn, Bubba Watson; Bench: Justin Rose, Andres Romero

Bohn is this year's defending champion in New Orleans, so here's hoping he can put together four good rounds in his title defense.  He has left a lot of shots out on the course this season, however, averaging 50th in each tournament he has played while also missing three out of eight cuts.  Watson, on the other hand, has a victory in 2011 already and continues to play decent golf in almost any tournament he enters.  However, he has been pretty inconsistent off the tee this year which is amplified by how far he hits the ball.  Romero is another past winner of this event (2008), however his even-par stroke average in 2011 (72) keeps him on the bench for me this week.  Justin Rose has been playing exceptional golf this season (65.8 stroke average) however has yet to capture a win.

C List

Starter: Chris Couch; Bench: Jerry Kelly

Both Couch and Kelly have also won the Zurich Classic at one point in their respective careers (2006 and 2009), so hopefully their experience in the event will carry over to this season's rendition as well.  I literally flipped a coin between these two players as far as who to start, and Couch won out... for now.
