Fantasy Golf Picks: Week 6
Mark Wilson is potentially the greatest C-Level fantasy golf player ever, so he is definitely the "no-brainer" pick for me this week as the PGA Tour heads to the heralded land of Pebble Beach for the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Dustin Johnson is the defending 2-two Champion, and he is also on a roll thusfar in 2011. Many big names on Tour are in the field this week at Pebble, so the options available are many. Read on to see who I am going with on my fantasy golf roster for Week 6. A List Starter: Dustin Johnson; Bench: Phil Mickelson
As stated above, DJ is the two-time defending champion of this event having won in both 2009 and 2010. Phil Mickelson has also won the event 3 times in his career (1998, 2005, 2007) and is typically a machine on Pebble Beach as a rule. I'm going to Johnson to start the event, but in all honesty either player would be a solid way to start out.
B List
Starters: Vijay Singh, Davis Love III; Bench: Hunter Mahan, Pat Perez
I'm not really sure what I am thinking with these picks; perhaps I am caught up in a little Ryder Cup excitement a year-and-a-half early. Both Singh and Love haven't really done a whole lot in terms of winning lately, although both men have played exceptionally well at Pebble Beach in their careers, including the AT&T Pro-Am (Singh won the event in 2004 and has 3 runner-up finishes; Love won the event in 2001 and 2003). Pat Perez is a strong bench consideration this week having finished as a runner-up back in 2002 and numerous strong showings at Pebble in his career. Hunter Mahan is admittingly a complete shot in the dark.
C List
Starter: Mark Wilson; Bench: Robert Garrigus
With Johnny Vegas losing his luster as the "hot hand" thusfar in 2011, 2-Time winner Mark Wilson is the obvious pick for most fantasy golf players this weekend. Wilson is playing out of his mind lately and will undoubtedly hit a snag at some point this season, so I'm going to do my best to get as many points out of him as I can early in the year. Here's also hoping that Garrigus and his wee-putter keep their solid play this week as my C-List bench player.
