Fantasy Golf Picks: Valero Texas Open

Master's Hangover Week ladies and gents as the PGA Tour makes its way to sunny San Antonio, Texas for the Valero Texas Open at the TPC San Antonio.  Defending champion Adam Scott returns after an absolutely fantastic showing at Augusta (T-2) and appears to be this week's "no-brainer" pick for yours truly.  While many of the top players in the world will be taking this week off from competition to lick their wounds, players like Bo Van Pelt, Angel Cabrera, and Geoff Ogilvy are on the course come Thursday following strong finishes at The Masters.  Read on to see my fantasy golf picks for the Valero Texas Open.   A List

Starter: Geoff Ogilvy; Bench: Ricky Barnes

Ogilvy was the dark horse for a little while last week at Augusta, slowly making his way up to a tie for the lead at 10-under par with Tiger Woods for about 5 minutes.  His play seems to be coming together quite nicely after having a slow start to his 2011 season (thanks largely to a nasty cut on his index finger from some coral in Hawaii).  Look for Ogilvy to remain consistent this week as he has done for weeks at a time in the past.  Ricky Barnes is always a solid pick for most tournaments, especially in a reserve capacity.  While not fairing entirely well last week, Barnes seems to have a knack of bouncing back after a poor week on Tour.

B List

Starters: Angel Cabrera, Bo Van Pelt; Bench: Spencer Levin, JJ Henry

Angel Cabrera played in the final grouping last week along with Rory "Tin Cup" McIlroy, however failed to make much of a move on Sunday in order to earn his second Green Jacket.  Regardless, he still played extraordinary golf all week, thus making him my pick to start on my B Squad in San Antonio.  He just needs to get that nasty infection in his tooth looked at before he is sidelined this season.  Bo Van Pelt, like Ogilvy, also made some noise last week in the area of a few birdies and an eagle to also get to 10-under par before ultimately sliding back later in his round.  Spencer Levin and JJ Henry are more or less safe reserves I have loaded my roster with as both players are having strong fantasy golf scoring seasons.

C List

Starter: Adam Scott; Bench: JB Holmes

Will this be the year we see the resurgence of Adam Scott, a man once thought to be the "next big thing" on the PGA Tour?  His new tree trunk of a putter certainly seems to be working rather well for him to this point, and his 12-under posting at Augusta was good enough for a tie for second place.  The man can hit the ball a mile and has a solid iron game to boot, so don't be surprised if we see more excitement from Scott this weekend in San Antonio (you know, since he is also the defending champion).  Holmes is another long-hitter that fares rather well on desert-style courses and will likely post a few low scores in the process this week.
