Fantasy Golf Picks: Travelers Championship

A List

Starter: Lucas Glover; Bench: Nick Watney

The PGA TOUR's next stop (and first of the Summer portion of most fantasy golf leagues) is at the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, CT.  Defending Champion Bubba Watson returns to the TPC at River Highlands and will try his best to capture a third title in 2011.  I decided against putting Bubba on my roster this week since I want to save him for the majors and perhaps the FedEx.  Lucas Glover and Nick Watney both have wins in 2011 and are having solid fantasy golf years in terms of points per tournament (28+ and 37+, respectively).  I will likely switch between these two players throughout the tournament - assuming both make the cut, of course - as Watney seems to play better on the final two rounds and Glover scores better in the initial rounds.

B List

Starters: Webb Simpson, David Toms; Bench: Brendon De Jonge, Vijay Singh

Not a lot of wins in this foursome, with Toms being the only player of the group to capture a title in 2011.  However, all players are having strong fantasy golf seasons thanks to multiple top-10 finishes.  Singh has had two top-3 finishes in 2011, which should make him a solid reserve player this week at what many consider to be an "easier" course on the PGA Tour schedule.  Webb Simpson is averaging over 38 points a tournament this year, keeping him as the highest-ranked B List player on the roster.  Toms is right behind him, of course, so both men should make for solid starts this week.

C List

Starter: Aaron Baddeley; Bench: Brandt Snedecker

Now here is a twosome that has had a gerat deal of success this season on TOUR.  Both Baddeley and Snedecker have wins under their respective belts in 2011, and both continue to average over 32 fantasy points per tournament.  I would not be surprised if one (or both) of these players are on the top of the leaderboard come Sunday.
