Fantasy Golf Picks: The Players Championship

A List

Starter: Luke Donald; Bench: Nick Watney

In my opinion, no golfer on the planet is playing better than Luke Donald in 2011.  The Players Championship seems like quite the stage for Donald to capture his second win on TOUR in 2011, and his rock-solid iron play will undoubtedly make the 17th hole at Sawgrass shiver in fear.  Donald was a co-runner up in 2005 and will be making his ninth start at Sawgrass.  Nick Watney remains a fixture on my roster in one form or another and will once again serve as a strong back-up just in case something happens to Donald.

B List

Starters: Ben Crane, Spencer Levin; Bench: Tim Clark, Ian Poulter

While defending champion Tim Clark makes his return to Sawgrass this week, he will fill a reserve spot on my roster for the likes of Ben Crane and Spencer Levin instead.  Crane has always played well at this event, finishing T6 in 2008, T5 in 2009, and T4 last season.  Let's hope his trend continues this week.  Levin continues his strong play from a fantasy golf perspective, thus making his a pretty solid start as often as possible in any event he enters.  Poulter looked lonely on my list of inactive golfers, so I threw the bloke on my bench for old-time's sake.

C List

Starter: Sergio Garcia; Bench: Jason Dufner

I have aboslutely no rhyme or reason for choosing Sergio this week as my C-List starter other than being a fan of his (and remembering his showdown with Paul Goydos a couple years back).  The man put it all together in 2008 to win in a playoff, so what's saying he can't do it again this season?  Oh... right.  He's played some pretty awful golf since that year.  Well... whatever.  Jason Dufner may get some playing time this weekend if that is the case.
