Fantasy Golf Picks: The Memorial Tournament

A List

Starter: Luke Donald; Bench: Matt Kuchar

Come on; how do I now start the new OWGR #1 this week in Luke Donald?  The man has been on fire, and I am sure he'll play just as well this week at The Memorial Tournament Presented by Nationwide Insurance (again, there needs to be a character max on tournament names).  While Donald doesn't have the greatest track record in this tournament historically, his strong play and newfound golf ranking undoubtedly shows his game is certainly heading in the right direction.  Matt Kuchar continuous his consistent play from a fantasy golf perspective as well as a "real golf" scoring viewpoint.  He also loves this tournament, posting  four consecutive top-15 finishes, and he's coming off a top-10 at the Byron Nelson last week.

B List

Starter: Steve Stricker, Charl Schwartzel; Bench: Justin Rose, Bubba Watson

This tournament has a plethora of talent to choose from for your roster since most players are gearing up for the US Open in a week.  Stricker and Schwartzel may not be the most popular picks for this week considering their poor track records at Muirfield Village, however something in has to change this week if I want to move up in my fantasy golf league rankings.  Justin Rose is the defending champion at The Memorial, and I wouldn't be surprised if he plays the weekend for me (he also recorded a runner-up finish in 2008).  Bubba Watson will be a good reserve if any of the other three players falter during the week.

C List:

Starter: J.B. Holmes; Bench: Ryan Moore

Moore finished in the top 5 at The Memorial last year and damn near won the event in 2007.  Holmes has not traditionally played well at this event, however his 2011 season is shaping up to be quite nice as he continues to improve his driver accuracy.  In all honesty, I won't look for a potential winner to come out of this group as much as I am hoping for pure point potential.
