New Level Golf 480-DB Forged Irons: A Review

Believe it or not: I have never had the opportunity to review a single product from New Level Golf despite having heard much about the brand over the years. This direct-to-consumer brand has captured the attention of multiple professional tour players, and their 480 Forged iron series is their latest offering.

The fine folks over at New Level Golf provided me a set of the 480-DB Forged irons as they were the closest to my gamer set, which is more in the player’s distance category. Two additional model types are available in the 480 Forged Series, including the Tour Cavity and Muscle Cavity varieties. You can learn more about each on the New Level website here.

If you’d like to view a video summary of my first impressions with the 480-DB irons, you can view that below.

Playability and Feel

The 480-DB irons are designed to provide a balance of distance, control, and feel. The forged construction, coupled with the precision milling process, results in a clubhead that feels incredibly solid and responsive. The feedback through the hands is satisfying, allowing golfers to easily adjust their swing based on the shot.

One of the standout features of the 480-DB irons is the Dynamic Back Weighting (DBW) technology. This innovative design shifts the center of gravity back and low, promoting higher launch angles and increased forgiveness. This is especially beneficial for golfers who struggle with consistency or accuracy.

Technology and Benefits

The 480-DB irons incorporate several other technologies that contribute to their performance.

First, these irons are fully forged to provide an unparalleled feel that golfers know only forged metals can offer. When coupled with the 480-DB’s cavity back design, this combo of forged feel and boosted forgiveness is exactly the type of iron I prefer for my game.

Next, and staying in line with the benefits of playing a fully-forged iron, the 480-DB face is uniform throughout to provide a similar feel across the face. In comparison, variable face designs can sometimes have inconsistencies in their production that may “surprise” a player on off-center hits. Nobody wants that risk of inconsistency on clubs that are meant for precision and scoring. New Level’s forging process eliminates this risk.

Finally, the weighted screw on the inner sole of each iron boosts CG and launch conditions without adding excessive weight to the overall design. Per New Level Golf:

With so many players going over and unders standard length these days, this gave us a way to fine tune swing weight without causing too much of an affect on launch characteristics. In testing, we observed minimal launch and spin changes with the different weights.

These technologies work together to deliver a combination of distance, accuracy, and control. Golfers of all skill levels should benefit from the 480-DB irons, as they offer a forgiving and playable experience.

Conclusion

The New Level Golf 480-DB Forged irons are a promising addition to the market. Their combination of advanced technology, premium materials, and exceptional feel make them a compelling option for golfers seeking improved performance. Whether you're a seasoned player or just starting out, the 480-DB irons are worth considering.

I've been particularly impressed with the dynamic back weighting technology and the solid feel of the clubs. If you're looking for a set of irons that can help you elevate your game, the 480-DB irons are definitely worth a try.
