The Drive to Atlanta: The FedEx Cup Finale

Keegan Bradley was the last man in the field for the BMW Championship at 50th in the FedEx Cup standings. But with his win on Sunday afternoon, he locked in his ticket to Atlanta and vaulted himself to 4th in the rankings. That fourth place position gives him a huge advantage over the rest of the field heading into Eastlake Golf Club, as the Tour Championship uses as staggered-start leaderboard.

This format will give top-ranked Scottie Scheffler the greatest advantage as he starts the week at 10-under par. Xander Schauffele, who finished number two in the standings, will start the week at 8-under. At third in the standings, Hideki Matsuyama will start at 7-under, and Keegan’s 4th place finish will have him starting at 6-under. That point distribution continues down through the final five in the field of 30, and those players will start at even par.

Welcome To Atlanta…

East Lake Golf Club was the home course of Bobby Jones - you know, the one who helped design Augusta National. He’s even buried in Oakland Cemetery, not far from the course and there is always a pile of golf balls at his grave from visitors who have come to pay their respects. The par-70, 7346-yard course is a classic Donald Ross design and has been the permanent home of the TOUR Championship since 2005.

East Lake Golf Club and the TOUR Championship are known for their charitable contributions to the communities in the Atlanta area. The East Lake motto is “Golf With A Purpose” because all profits from the golf club go to support the East Lake Foundation, which in turn helps to support the health, education, safety and productivity of the East Lake neighborhood. In 1998, East Lake’s No. 2 was turned into a Charlie Yates Golf Course, providing golf education to children living in the city of Atlanta.

The TOUR Championship takes part in several charity events during tournament week as well. Tee Up ATL at the Eastern is the ultimate kickoff event for the TOUR Championship. This star-studded charity concert unites Atlanta with a celebration of community, culture, and golf — while raising money for hometown nonprofits including the East Lake Foundation, Grove Park Foundation, Purpose Built Schools Atlanta, First Tee Metro Atlanta and Focused Community Strategies. This year’s attendees will see an unforgettable performance by ATL legend 2 Chainz.

Tickets to the 2024 edition start at $35 and are available for purchase by going to TeeUpATL.com.
