Edison 2.0 Wedges Review
Edison Golf has released the upgraded version of their incredible wedge series, offering superb forgiveness and performance in a part of your game often overlooked. The Edison 2.0 wedges bring back many of the features that made their predecessors so great, while introducing new qualities to help you lower your scores.
I’ve spent some time with the new Edison 2.0 wedges on the course and these are the results.
Edison 2.0 Wedges Technology and Design
The Edison 2.0 wedges are available for purchase as a single-iron or wedge set. Edison offers a wide range of loft options spanning everywhere between 45-degrees and 60-degrees. While each loft number is odd-numbered, Edison’s club makers will tweak the lofts per your specifications on their website.
Each clubhead features 5x forged 1025 carbon steel and a matte satin finish with Edison Pearl Chrome plating. This combo mixes well to reduce glare at address while offering golfers a finish that they’ll love.
Edison also offers a wide range of shaft and grip options to fit your game, along with an online fitting “wizard” to help you find the perfect fit. While this will never replace the keen eye of a master club fitter in-person, I found Edison’s online version very accurate in its recommendations for my scoring clubs.
Most notable in each wedge is their patented Kohler Sole, which combines a high bounce leading edge with a low bounce trailing edge. This shape allows for maximum versatility on the course, offering multiple options for any shot you are faced with during your round.
Performance and Feel
As a huge fan of the original Edison wedge design, I had high expectations for the Edison 2.0 wedges. I am a believer in playing forgiving wedges as opposed to tradition, blade-like shapes, so knowing what Edison usually offers players had me excited to try them out.
After playing 18 holes with the Edison 2.0 wedges, I didn’t see much difference in them compared to the previous version. This isn’t a bad thing, to be clear. These wedges are very forgiving, offer consistent and predictable distances no matter where you make contact on the face, and offered superb spin and control.
If anything, the Edison 2.0 wedges felt a little heavier than the originals, which was a welcome feature for my game. I have a tendency to rush my hands through impact with my shorter clubs, which could often lead to thin shots especially on chips. The slightly heavier clubheads in the 2.0 wedges neutralized this problem nicely.
I found the 2.0 wedges to be extremely accurate on full swings. It’s always nice to correctly judge how your golf ball will perform once it hits the green in terms of bounces and spin, and the Edison 2.0 wedges offered consistent, predictable performance on every shot.
The only feature I’ll be critical about is the high bounce leading edge, which is a look that I don’t typically prefer for my game. However, this is more aesthetic than anything, as I didn’t find this feature to negatively affect my scoring in any way.
Overall Impression
Edison Golf clearly makes some of the best wedges in golf, period. Their new 2.0 wedges are top-notch in every way, offering players of any skill level a proper wedge option for their game. Traditionalists and modern-look players alike will find something to love here, while the optimal spin, accuracy and control each wedge offers will excite all players.
