The Mitsubishi Chemical Tensei AV Blue golf shaft features a launch profile that is suitable for a wide range of golfers. Featuring a mid-launch trajectory tendency, this shaft can be found in drivers or fairway woods across multiple club brands. The Aluminum Vapor (AV) Coated Fiber butt-end of the shaft helps with stability toward your hands, which is perfect no matter your swing speed or swing tendencies.

Let’s take a closer look at the Tensei AV Blue golf shaft.

Tensei AV Blue Tech

The main feature of the Tensei AV Blue is stability. Far too often you’ll find golf shafts that fit only one specific golf swing profile: whether it be fast speeds or slower. The folks at Mitsubishi Chemical have worked tirelessly to find a shaft that fits any swing speed or profile, for the most part. The result is the Tensei AV Blue.

Not to compare brands, but a similar shaft profile can be found in the Project X HZRDUS Smoke Blue RDX if you prefer or need a lower shot trajectory. The Tensei AV Blue tended to fly a little higher for me.

Compared to the previous Tensei CK Series, this is slightly lighter throughout, with a lower torque. The AV weave is tighter and thinner, to help prevent shaft ovaling and improve energy transfer. Yes, that’s right; shafts can also “oval-out” in terms of how it moves through the air during a swing. If you’ve ever heard of “shaft puring,” this is a concept that garners a lot of attention — and controversy — in the golf shaft nerd talk.

The Tensei AV Blue is available in multiple weights and flexes, ranging from 55-grams to 78-grams in regular, stiff or extra-stiff. The lightest of the three weight options also incorporates the Straight Flight Weighting (SFW) system that helps golfers turn the club over easier through impact, which in turn straightens a slight fade or promotes a slight draw.

Ultra-lightweight materials and low resin content within the shaft equates to a slightly lower swing weight with an ultra-dense composite build that screams stability, durability, and strength. You know, three qualities that you really want in a golf shaft.

Of course, to understand the full benefit this shaft can have for your game, you’ll want to get fit for your driver shaft.

Tensei AV Blue Performance

I’ve had the opportunity to test the Tensei AV Blue in multiple club builds over the last year, ranging from drivers to fairway woods. My preference is the former, as I found the shaft to be optimal for my swing profile in my driver.

I have a tendency of hitting the ball too low off the tee, which reduces my carry yardage as as result of lower launch and lower spin. The Tensei AV Blue provided me just enough more lift off the tee, regardless of driver clubhead I had installed. Across the board, no matter what, I was hitting the ball higher than other shafts I tried without having the ball balloon on me.

The Tensei AV Blue’s weight was also ideal for my game as I prefer something a little lighter than standard. Coupled with what I thought was a soft yet stable feel throughout the swing, this golf shaft felt perfect in my hands. I never had the sense of losing the clubhead during my swing, giving me a sense of control that is imperative to hitting good drives.

Overall Impression

The Mitsubishi Chemical Tensei AV Blue is a golf shaft ideal for a wide range of golfers who are looking for a mid-launch trajectory in their driver or fairway woods. This golf shaft performed excellent for me across multiple club builds, including fairway woods. Despite being a couple years old at the time of this article, the Tensei AV Blue remains one of the best shaft options available on the market.
