Tour Edge Exotics C721 Driver Review

T

The new Tour Edge Exotics C721 driver packs a ton of technology into an affordable, compact package that will appeal to a wide range of golfers. The subject of a recent Big Time Golf Guys podcast episode, this driver gives you everything you need off the tee… and more.

Tour Edge Exotics C721 Driver Specs

Right out of the gate, you know there is something special going on with the C721 driver from Tour Edge Exotics. The carbon crown looks a little different from competing offerings, thanks to what Tour Edge calls “Dual Carbon Wings.”

Where most carbon crowns are one continuous piece of material, Tour Edge’s spin on the tech separates the crown into two. The result is a “T” shaped piece of material that aides in maintaining crown stability and shape through impact. This Ridgeback design not only looks great, but serves a distinct purpose. Believe it or not, but a driver’s clubhead can change shape significantly when making contact with your golf ball.

Another highlight in the C721 Driver is Tour Edge’s Diamond Face technology. Ball speed is always something you want in a driver, and Diamond Face accomplishes this by way of 43 diamond shapes and seven different thicknesses throughout its design. That sounds like a ton of intricate details in a clubface — and it is! — but the result is a smooth, balanced face ready for anything you can throw at it.

Performance and Feel

Readers of this site know that I prefer a softer feel with a driver, and pretty much any other club in my bag. While the Tour Edge Exotics C721 driver isn’t the softest feeling option on the market, I’d say it fits somewhere in the middle on the feel spectrum.

Impact is muted, yet solid to the point of almost being classified as “hard.” The sound exuded from the clubhead is a little on the louder side, particularly off the sweet spot. I’ve come around to accepting that drivers are going more towards this sound profile in recent years, and it’s best to accept it.

Carry distance wasn’t extraordinary in my experience, particularly with the stock Project X HZRDUS Smoke Blue RDX 60 shaft, but this can be fine-tuned with a proper fitting. Where I saw the biggest benefit with the C721 Driver was total distance, thanks to an incredible amount of roll. For example, one of my best drives equated to nearly 35 yards of roll in soft conditions. I can only imagine what that would be in the summer months.

Dispersion was also very promising, particularly left-and-right. You obviously want to keep the ball in play off the tee, and the Tour Edge Exotics C721 driver is as much a fairway-finder as the best in the accuracy category. Very impressive.

Overall Impression

There’s not much negative to say about this driver, and that’s a rarity in my view these days. While the sound is something I can eventually get used to, the overall takeaway from the C721 driver is one of a repeatable, consistent distance tool in a highly accurate driver option. Golfers will find full confidence in setting themselves up to score off the tee with the C721 driver, regardless of playing conditions.
