Srixon Nimbus Ultra Light Stand Bag Review
Golfers looking for a super lightweight stand bag shockingly have few options at their disposal. While most stand bags in the “lightweight’ category will average between 5-7 pounds, the addition of 14 clubs, golf balls and accessories easily increase that weight to an uncomfortable walking experience. At just 3.3 pounds (1.5kg), the Srixon Nimbus Ultra Light Stand Bag might be the solution for you.
Srixon Nimbus Ultra Light Stand Bag Features
Simplicity matched with usability is at the forefront of this collaboration from Srixon, coupled with a product name eagle-eyed golf junkies will recognize. OGIO golf bags also featured a “Nimbus” model a couple years ago, boasting a lightweight design with just enough features that all golfers appreciate.
This Nimbus stand bag includes an adequate number of pockets and protection for your clubs, accessories, and personal items in a truly lightweight package. A velour-lined valuables pocket is perfect for car keys or a smartphone, complete with a water-resistant zipper to keep them dry. An insulated pocket that serves as a great mini-cooler is imperative for hot days on the course, and added perks like a scorecard and pen pocket is appreciated.
The Nimbus also features a 6-way divider top with a specific slot for your putter, which keeps your clubs’ grips from getting tangled. An elastic umbrella loop with sleeve and holder is ready for the surprise rain shower, and the bag even features a “cart lock” base for days when you prefer to ride.
The usual dual strap mainstay seen in most stand bags is icing on the cake for what is truly a jam-packed carry bag option without any unnecessary compartments or trinkets that would otherwise add to the weight of the bag.
Performance and Durability
I’ve been searching for the “perfect” lightweight bag option for awhile now, hoping to walk more this season. I’ve tried everything from “Sunday bags” that offer little to no features (let alone the ability to handle 14 clubs) to bag that feel made of paper, destined to rip and wear after a few uses.
Right out of the box, the Srixon Nimbus stand bag feels incredibly light yet sturdy and well-made. The outer material is thin, but not paper-like or flimsy. There is no leather or otherwise heavier material used in this bag, which makes its “heaviest” portion the 6-way divider at the top… which is perfectly acceptable. While this weighting promotes a proper strap adjustment to balance things out when carrying, the strap design makes this a simple task.
The slight body padding on the bag’s side is perfectly placed to minimize friction against your side and back when the bag is carried, and the Cart Lock base fits snugly in any golf cart when riding. This latter features helps keep the bag stationary and “locked in” when cruising around on cart paths, hills, and terrain. The pockets are what you’d expect from other stand bags, of course, and are easily accessible at all times.
The one aspect I’m going to keep a closer eye on over time is the bag’s durability, particularly when strapped onto a golf cart multiple times. Other bags often wear against the cart strap, causing frays and black marks on your golf bag. I’ve not seen any signs of that wear just yet, so that’s a promising sign so far.
Overall Impression
The Srixon Nimbus Ultra Light stand bag is a fantastic option for golfers looking to walk more this golf season. At only 3.3 pounds, it’s one of the lightest options available anywhere, but the addition of a 6-way divider and Cart Lock base truly make it stand out. I’m very impressed overall.
