Functionality and Performance
I was incredibly impressed by the premium features of the SwingU golf app. Still, having tested many different services, apps and devices before, I was skeptical at first. Surely all of these features on one app would mean corners would be cut somewhere, leaving me frustrated when I needed a feature most.
Amazingly, I simply did not experience any let down whatsoever with SwingU. Honestly: it’s incredible.
The golf GPS features — the bread and butter of the app — are amazingly detailed with real-time yardages to every hazard, green, tree, or literally wherever you place your finger on your smartphone screen. By simply pointing and dragging the cursor on the app, I was able to manage my round with ease as yardages were instantly provided with stunning accuracy. I even verified SwingU’s yardages with my high-end laser rangefinder, and the differences were negligible.
The Strokes Gained features were a highlight for my experience, as similar products or devices leave a lot to be desired. SwingU partnered with the original creator of the same technology used by the top tracking device on the market to bring the exact same experience to this smartphone app… but without the need for additional hardware.
Additional highlights for me included the automatic club recommendations that were generated by my own yardage tendencies, providing me a virtual caddy experience. The interface also offers tips and instruction on every element of my game — lead by top-notch instructors on the Top-100 list. SwingU even features the ability to video and save my own swing for later review and comparison to top golfers in the game.
Overall Impression
The SwingU golf app is hands-down the best of its kind thanks to a list of features and technology that will blow you away. Their course catalogue continues to grow every single day, new golf instruction is added frequently, and there’s no doubt additional features will be added in the near future.
