New TaylorMade SIM2 Driver Family

TaylorMade SIM2 drivers.

TaylorMade Golf has officially unveiled their new SIM2 driver family. Comprised of three models — SIM2, SIM2 Max, and SIM2 Max•D (draw-based design) — TaylorMade looks to upgrade what was already a phenomenal driver for golfers of all abilities.

TaylorMade SIM2 Driver Upgrades

The biggest story of the new SIM2 driver family is what TaylorMade calls a “revolutionary new construction.” SIM — an acronym for Shape in Motion — was created to give golfers a small boost of swing speed just before impact. This was done by a truly unique clubhead design that enhanced aerodynamic properties to maintain speed and optimize launch conditions.

If this PR-speak sounds similar to other brands, you’d be correct. Every company continues to chase speed and forgiveness in the driver, but TaylorMade’s take on the approach remains unique.

Forged Ring Construction is the highlight of the SIM2 design, and it is fascinating. Utilizing a lightweight and high strength aluminum that’s precision milled, the adjoining feature unites the critical components of the driver head into a singular force. Where some drivers may piece this section of the clubhead together bit by bit, TaylorMade figured out a way to make it one solid unit.

The SIM2 also features a full carbon crown and sole, which is another first for the brand. The expanded use of carbon saves a considerable amount of weight that’s been redeployed throughout the clubhead in the form of a heavy rear weight (16g SIM2, 24g SIM2 Max and 22g SIM2 Max•D). Placing this substantial weight low and back in the club moves the CG projection to center face, optimizes launch conditions and maximizes MOI – more commonly described as forgiveness.

Twist Face once again returns in the SIM2, which is the brand’s patented take on the bulge and roll design seen in clubs over the years. This oval-shaped milled face design adds to the club’s forgiveness on off-center strikes, with the larger face adding significant bumps in forgiveness throughout the SIM2 line (SIM2 is 12% larger (vs. SIM), SIM2 Max is 5% larger (vs. SIM Max) and SIM2 Max•D is 5% larger (compared to SIM Max•D).
