Project X EvenFlow Riptide Shaft Review

The Project X EvenFlow Riptide golf shaft is a fantastic option for players with a moderate swing speed who prefer a medium trajectory ball flight and spin rate. Featuring all the bells and whistles you’d expect from Project X, the Riptide is definitely built with distance in mind.

EvenFlow Riptide Tech and Specs

Our experience with the Riptide was courtesy to it being a stock offering in the new Srixon ZX driver line. Available in multiple weight options, this shaft is lightweight by design to promote faster swing speeds for players who average 100mph or less with their driver. However, players who prefer heavier shafts will also find the RipTide in 70- and 80-gram offerings as well.

The mid-launch and mid-spin characteristics of the shaft are thanks to its “even blend” design (hence the name, EvenFlow) that assists with a fully balanced energy transfer when you swing. In layman’s terms, this basically means you’re not going to get weird, unbalanced flex points in the shaft regardless of your individual swing profile.

Torsional Stability Optimization is a phrase you’ve probably never heard of before, but it’s the technology Project X attributes to the shaft’s stability. This promotes a “smooth” feel for the shaft as opposed to something that feels too stiff or flimsy during your swing.

Performance and Feel

As advertised, the Project X EvenFlow Riptide shaft feels smooth and stable throughout your swing. While some golf shafts my exhibit different flex “feels” in your hands or near the tip of the shaft, the Riptide promotes a flex feel somewhere in the middle of the shaft.

Regardless of golf shaft preference, a player wants to feel the kick-point of the shaft at some point in the swing. This helps with timing and swing coordination, especially off the tee. If your golf shaft has a higher kick-point toward the clubhead, that’s going to feel very different from a shaft that has a higher kick near your hands/grip. The Riptide, however, feels uniform in flex throughout the shaft.

Ball flight definitely fit in the mid-launch bucket during our review. While launch and trajectory are the result of spin, speed, and overall quality of strike, the Riptide produced a repeatable, consistent height off the tee. Backspin was also around the 2300 rpm spin rate, which for our reviewer is right in the middle of his usual swing tendencies.

Who Should Buy This Shaft?

While we will always advocate for you to get your hands on a product and try it before you buy, golfers who need a little more launch or a tad more spin in your woods will benefit from the EvenFlow Riptide.

Keep in mind: there are many characteristics that balance together to produce a desired ball flight. However, with all things kept constant, the EvenFlow Riptide delivers on their marketing in terms of suggested swing profile: mid-launch, mid-spin, mid-trajectory.
