Srixon ZX Drivers Review

Srixon ZX Drivers.

The new Srixon ZX5 and ZX7 driver series feature a refreshed design and tech for a brand looking to gain market share in the metalwoods space. Featuring the new Rebound Frame Technology, Srixon has introduced the best drivers they’ve ever built.

Srixon ZX5 Driver Background and Tech

Geared toward the player looking for more forgiveness and ball speed, the Srixon ZX5 driver delivers both in spades. The larger clubhead of the brand’s two new offerings, the ZX5 delivers total confidence due to a larger footprint and flattened shape, with a single weight placed low and deep to help make ZX5 Drivers ideal for straight drives that launch high and carry far.

Srixon ZX7 Driver Background and Tech

In contrast to it’s ZX5 cousin, the Srixon ZX7 driver features two interchangeable weights to help you fine-tune launch conditions off the tee. The ZX7 Driver delivers total control due to a penetrating ball flight and adjustability features to give any player their desired launch conditions.

Both drivers feature a wide range of updates, including:

  • Rebound Frame – By focusing more energy into the golf ball, Rebound Frame’s unique structure increases ball speed and distance on every shot, especially center-face impacts.

  • Lightweight Carbon Crown – A 15% larger carbon crown repositions mass low, pushing MOI up and increasing forgiveness.

  • Adjustability – A single weight port in the ZX5 Driver and two weight ports in the ZX7 Driver allows for adjustments to CG or swing weight, while an adjustable hosel provides variation in loft, lie, and face angle.

ZX Drivers Performance and Feel

The biggest jump in Srixon’s arsenal of high performing equipment has been in the woods category in recent years. Last year’s Z 585 and Z785 driver family was a significant upgrade in previous releases from the brand, and this year’s ZX line is truly stellar.

Both the ZX5 and ZX7 feature a crisp, solid feel at impact with a tad louder feedback sound than you’d expect. The Rebound Frame Technology feels extremely solid throughout the clubhead regardless of contact location, and the lightweight carbon build helps you cut through the air easily. Depending on shaft choice, the ZX drivers are some of the lighter options I’ve tried this year.

In terms of performance, the ZX5 driver stood out in particular. The larger head and face profile helps the ball explode off the tee, yielding some of my longest drives in recent years. Even more impressive was the level of control I had with the ZX5, making it seem like drives were on autopilot.

The ZX7, conversely, did not perform as well for me. I’m sure the two moveable and interchangeable weights would need more fine-tuning to give me the perfect club profile; however out of the box, the ZX7 was not as accurate or forgiving for someone of my ability. This is not to suggest a proper fitting wouldn’t help this driver outshine the ZX5.

Overall Impression

For my game, the Srixon ZX5 driver was far and away the better option of the two new offerings, and that’s saying something. Having played the Z785 driver for the last year, I was expecting to go back into a similar driver profile offered by the ZX7. This just goes to show the importance of trying out more than one option before making a final decision.

Srixon continues to make great strides in the driver category, and their new line continues that upward trend. It would not be surprising to see a larger Tour and mini-tour presence for the brand in the driver category thanks to this new release.
