TaylorMade Announces New SIM Metalwoods

TaylorMade Golf has officially announced their new SIM metalwoods series. Coined as “changing the shape of performance,” the new SIM series features drivers, fairway woods and hybrids.

SIM Drivers

Shape in Motion, otherwise known as SIM, is most evident in TaylorMade’s new driver family. Always a contender for best drivers of the year, the new SIM family looks to maintain the brand’s momentum in this space for 2020.

The biggest new feature in the SIM driver is what TaylorMade is calling an “Inertia Generator;” a blend of design and technology that promotes less drag and more airflow throughout the player’s swing.

Because if there’s anything I’m always looking for in my driver swing, it’s more airflow.

In all seriousness, perhaps I should. These technologies include strategic placement of the club’s CG (low and back) to increase MOI, and thus forgiveness. While these are promises every brand seems to make every year (how much lower and backer can we get?), TaylorMade’s approach with SIM is intriguing to say the least.

Generating more clubhead speed at the last few feet before impact is something any golfer should appreciate, especially those of us who can use all the help we can get.

Twistface and sliding weight tech remain present in this new driver family, which will include three models: SIM, SIM Max and SIM Max-D.

SIM Fairway Woods

TaylorMade’s fairway wood designs have always been impressive to me, making the new SIM fairway updates very compelling. A steel v-sole design that raises the heel and toe of the club to help it glide through the turf immediately pops out amid the many features of these woods. A low CG in the 180cc club head is sure to promote high ball speeds and forgiveness, particularly on shots low on the face.

SIM Rescue

Rounding out the new SIM metalwoods are the SIM Rescue updates, which feature many of the same hot-face technologies as their larger cousins. TaylorMade appears to have rounded the toe of these hybrids which will appeal to players (like me) who prefer the look of a driving iron to that of your traditional hybrid.

The entire TaylorMade SIM metalwood family will be available for pre-order on January 10 and available at retail on February 7.
