Callaway Unveils New MAVRIK Woods and Irons

Callaway Golf’s new MAVRIK woods and irons continue the company’s expansion on their AI technology while truly creating tools that are as unique as your game. Available in stores on January 23, 2020, the MAVRIK family is sure to be among the top of any golfer’s wish list this golf season.

I’m always a fan of product names or titles that have less letters than you’d expect. Vowels are usually the poor victims of the erasure in those instances, but Callaway takes things to the next level by including the occasional consonant into the fray.

In all seriousness, the new MAVRIK woods are substantially more than their clever monikers. Featuring Callaway’s new AI-designed Flash Face SS20 architecture, ball speed remains the ultimate focus. This is accomplished thanks to new face architecture engineered to specifically work with the head of each MAVRIK driver, for instance. This fact boosts intrigue into each separate MAVRIK driver design (MAVRIK, SubZero and MAX) not found — or at least emphasized — in competing brands.

The complexity of each Flash Face SS20 design demands a new and stronger material -- FS2S titanium -- to allow the ultra-thin design to stand up to the stress of impact. This strengthens the integrity of the face overall, leading to higher ball speeds across the face.

Callaway expands their use of AI in the MAVRIK beyond the clubface, as well. A new internal rib system in each club head limits vibration at impact, leading to an incredible sound and feel that will appeal to most. Of course, Jailbreak and a T2C Triaxial Carbon Crown make their return in the design.

The MAVRIK fairway woods and hybrids also receive technology boosts in the new series. Both feature the AI-designed Flash Face tech, consisting of C300 maraging steel to provide added strength. Each face is specifically designed for the different club lofts to optimize launch, speed, and spin rate.

Callaway also includes Flash Face in their new MAVRIK irons for the first time. Like the woods, each individual iron head’s size, shape, CG location and loft changes with each club, optimizing performance specific to that individual tool.

That’s exactly what MAVRIK’s features read like: descriptions for tools of the trade, not just golf clubs.

Proprietary urethane microspheres, which is a feature that sounds as fancy as I’m sure it is, promotes better feel and ball speed in the iron design. These are strategically placed into each clubhead to absorb unwanted vibration while maximizing COR, resulting in a combination of fast ball speed and ideal feel throughout the set.
