REVIEW: Callaway Oceanside Spikeless Golf Shoes

The spikeless golf shoe trend has been ongoing for years now, with multiple brands offering their take on this style. Callaway Apparel’s Oceanside spikeless golf shoes are a durable and fashionable option in this space at an affordable price point ($99).

Features

The Callaway Oceanside spikeless golf shoe gives you everything you’d expect in a high-quality shoe.

  • Waterproof opti-dri™ performance mesh with welded stability cage

  • Spikeless Dura-rubber outsole with multi-directional traction lugs

  • Opti-soft™ EVA midsole for natural ground feel and comfort

  • 7mm molded PLUSfoam insole for increased comfort

  • Opti-vent™ mesh liner for breathability and heat management

Each pair also comes with a two-year limited waterproof warranty. This is an important feature in a softspike shoe as competing brands often overlook the waterproof quality in favor of more breathable, mesh designs. While I appreciate a shoe that doesn’t overheat my feet on hot days, keeping my feet dry will also be a higher priority.

Performance

The Callaway Oceanside shoes feel great on your feet while walking the course. The PLUSfoam insole is supportive yet “cushy” enough to give you the added comfort you need with every step regardless of terrain. Meanwhile, the Opti-soft™ EVA midsole helps you stay in touch with the ground, especially on the putting green. I’m a player who likes to confirm what my eyes see with my feet when reading putts, and I was able to do so with the Oceanside shoes.

Traction is always a concern for me when it comes to spikeless shoes, especially on damp ground. The Callaway Oceanside outer sole features muted nubs and softspikes that are more shallow than other shoes I’ve tried. Regardless, I did not experience any slipping or other traction issues during my test of the shoes.

While the Oceanside shoes aren’t heavy, they do have a little heft to them. This is not a distracting quality by any means, however I must note that there are lighter spikeless shoe options on the market if that is a major selling point for you.

The waterproof qualities of the shoes are fantastic. Even in a cold, wet, semi-snowy day, the Oceanside shoes kept my feet dry even when sloshing through a couple snow piles at my course.

Aesthetically, these shoes offer a minimalist design and low profile (the top of the shoe sits just below your ankle bone) that many modern golfers will appreciate.

Overall Impression

Generally speaking, the Callaway Oceanside spikeless golf shoes are a great option for players transitioning into this category of golf shoe. They are one of the best shoes I’ve tried in terms of waterproof technology, and they accomplish this while remaining comfortable and somewhat lightweight. Traction was also a positive quality of the shoe build, even in less-than-optimal playing conditions.
