REVIEW: New Balance NB Striker Golf Shoes

New Balance has long been known for making extremely comfortable and durable athletic footwear for runners, basketball players, baseball players, soccer and more. Their NB Striker golf shoes present a solid option for golfers looking for a waterproof shoe that’s as comfortable to wear as any gym shoe.

Background and Tech

When talking about golf shoes, you usually want to make sure they can withstand most weather elements and provide consistent traction throughout the swing. The New Balance NB Striker excels in both categories.

Extremely lightweight in design, the NB Striker features a Champ soft spike Slim-Lok Zarma Tour cleat system to keep you grounded during your round in any weather condition. The Exoskeleton TPU outsole is designed to move with the natural motion of your foot, allowing for more flexibility and comfort while walking or swinging the club.

I particularly liked the REVlite 10mm drop midsole, which provides lightweight cushioning and adequate responsiveness to however I moved my foot. I find it difficult to find golf shoes that feature enough cushion in the inner sole without compromising fit. Sometimes, too much cushion leads to a tighter-fitting shoe that can become uncomfortable over time. The NB Striker avoids this problem entirely with its design.

Performance

Having played a couple golf rounds and multiple practice sessions while wearing the NB Striker, I was impressed with their fit, comfort and durability. Recent weeks in my part of the country have been rainy, which put the NB Striker’s traction qualities to the test. I’m pleased to report these shoes performed admirably, all while keeping my feet dry in the process.

From an aesthetic standpoint, I wasn’t in love with the grey color design I received for my review pair. Some of the logos and decals on the shoe appear “shiny” in direct sunlight, which some may perceive as seeming lower quality in materials. However, the shoe’s outer sole and cleat system are extremely well built and present an image of stability. The overall appearance of the shoe is slightly more on the traditional end of the spectrum, which will appeal to many golfers.

Overall Impression

The New Balance NB Striker golf shoes are very well made, almost entirely waterproof, and very comfortable to wear. Retailing for $119.99, these shoes are not the cheapest nor the most expensive in the market. If you are looking for a high quality mid-price shoe that is built to last multiple seasons, definitely give these a look.
